Applications available for DEC Environmental Education Summer Camps

The application is now posted online for the Department of Environmental Conservation Environmental Education Summer Camps.

The DEC Environmental Education Camps offer campers experiences in sportsman education, games, lessons, hands-on activities, swimming, hiking, canoeing and other outdoor activities. Through these activities, campers will learn about forests, water quality, nature and more.

There are four different camps kids can attend, Camp Colby, Camp DeBruce, Camp Rushford and Camp Pack Forest. Campers will participate in discovery groups and will complete six lessons. These lessons include group dynamics, explorations of different habitats and human impacts on the environment.  Science, problem solving, games, journal keeping and wildlife activities are also part of what campers will experience.

Camp starts on July 1, 2012 and goes until August 18, 2012. Campers can attend multiple times during the seven, week-long sessions.

ValleyCats begin '4 in 24' Youth Field Renovations

TROY - On Friday, April 13, the Tri-City ValleyCats will begin their Community Grounds Crew Program.

The four selected little league fields will have new sod placed in their in-field as well as having their pitchers mound and homeplate areas re-built. All work on the four fields is expected to be completed in 24 hours.

The selected Little Leagues are Waterford Little League, South Colonie Youth Baseball, Coxsackie Little League, and Cambridge Valley Athletic Association.

Renovation on each field will begin at 6a amd willalso include straightening of the baselines and making sure field dimensions are correct.

ValleyCats individual game tickets on-sale

TROY - On Wednesday, April 4, tickets for the Tri-City ValleyCats 2012 season will go on-sale to commemorate Major League Baseball's Opening Night.

The 2012 schedule consists of 38 home games at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. There will be 14 fireworks shows throughout the season and a Derek Jeter bobblehead giveaway.

Tickets go on-sale at 10a.

Opening night for the ValleyCats is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20 against the Vermont Lake Monsters. First pitch is scheduled for 7p.\

 

 

Adaptive Sports Weekend held for Wounded Warriors.

TROY- STRIDE Adaptive Sports is holding a three-day event for Wounded Warriors and their families. Eighteen Wounded Warriors will spend the weekend at Jiminy Peak learning how to adaptive ski and snowboard from a team of instructors.

Most of the participants are from New York State Transition units, having recently returned home with medical trauma. Five alumni Warriors will be in  attendence in a mentorship role to assist the Warriors it what is often an Overwhelming experience.

The event begins Friday, March 9 at 6p, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy with a cocktail reception. The dinner will feature entertainment by the band Best Bet.  Renssealaer County Exectutive Kathleen Jimino will open the event and Wounded Warrior 1SGT Oatrick Abrams will deliver the keynote address.

The event is open to the public and tickets are $35 a person or $400 for a table of  ten.

Hoosik Falls Outdoor Expo

HOOSIK FALLS - The Hoosik Falls Central School District will hold its outdoor festival from on March 9 and 10, at the central school gymnasium. The expo will feature exhibits by the DEC Police, local sportsman, a trout exhibit, a gun safety exhibit lecture, as well as a group of guest lecturers.

Liberty Ridge Farm Summer Camp

SCHAGTICOKE- Liberty Ridge Farm had opened registration to Summer Camp Directors who want an exhilarating field trip experience for their campers this summer.

Liberty Ridge Farm offers numerous outdoor activities, including the Jumping Pillow, a barnyard of animals, and The Pitchfork concession stand.

Summer Farm Adventures begin July 20th and are offered every Wednesday through September 2nd. A three hour session on the farm costs $9

Tri-City ValleyCats announces promotional schedule

The Tri-City ValleyCats have announced their promotional schedule for the 2012 season.

Events include two bobble head giveaways, three Tunes for Tuesday nights, 14 fireworks shows and other themed events.

The season starts on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. vs. the Vermont Lake Monsters. Fans will receive a ValleyCats schedule magnet. The two game series will finish on Thursday, June 21 with Game Show Night and both nights will feature fireworks presented by Price Chopper.
