The Fault Line to perform

NORTH GREENBUSH - On Thursday, May 3, The Fault Line will be performing at Woodland Hills Montessori School.

The Fault Line is a nationally known acapella band based in Albany, they appeared on 2007's America's Got Talent, placing in the top 20.

There will also be a performance from WHMS's acapella group, Here Comes Treble.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children with a maximum of $25 per family. The event is open to the public.

The performances begin at 7p.

Schumer says raising interest rate unacceptable

If congress doesn't act, the interest rate for Stafford loans will double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent.

New York’s senior senator, Chuck Schumer says that's unacceptable.

Schumer is pushing for legislation extending the 3.4 percent rate for one year and hopes to make it permanent.

A vote on the issue is scheduled in the house on Friday.

Local students to take part in nationwide anti-bullying rally

HUDSON - On Friday, May 4, students in Hudson will join thousands of others across the country to take a stand against bullying.

The Group Stand4Change.org is organizing a rally to bring attention to the problem of bullying.

Construction Career Day

GLENMONT - On April 25-26, high school students from around the region will take part in the 11th Annual Capital District Construction Career Day, a two day hands on event designed to introduce youth to the many opportunities available in the construction industry.

The event will be attended my professionals from over 30 local companies, state agencies, and labor organizations.

The construction industry is on the rebound in New York State, and the Governor has recogized the importance of investing in New York's infrastructure which will put people back to work.

The event will be at Tri-Cities Laborers Training Facility in Glenmont.

30 Hour Famine

TECH VALLEY - Students at Tech Valley High School are currently preparing for the annual 30-hour famine that is taking place beginning this Friday.

The students will spend a night at the school and not eat from Noon on Friday to Noon on Saturday. During this time they will participate in activites that raise awareness about what the hungry of the world go through.

The event is being organised to raise funds for Samina, 7, who lives in Bangladesh.

Citizens Bank seeks student applicants for scholarship program

ALBANY - Applications for the Citizens Bank's TruFit Good Citizen Student Scholarship program are now being accepted.

Last year, the scholarship program awarded a total of $50,000 to college students whose volunteer efforts made a difference in their communities.

This year, 40 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and current college students across the country who have been active in community service.

Applicants are asked to write an essay of no more than 250 words or record a 60-second video summing up their responsibility and leadership skills gained through community service experiences.

The scholarships will be awarded this summer for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Student race car club to unveil newest car

TROY - The Formula SAE team at RPI will be unveiling its 2012 race car on Monday, April 2. The team is ranked 10th in the country and next month will race at the Michigan International Speedway as it has done since 1994. 

Formula SAE is an intercollegiate design competition that requires each team of students to design, manufacture, and market a Formula-style racecar. Wach year the car is evaluated in two categories: static and dynamic. In the static events, the car is judged on cost, manufacturability, and design. In dynamic events, the vehicle is judged on acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, and fuel economy.
