Plans revealed for former Troy City Hall site

TROY -- The old Troy City Hall is in the process of being torn down.

Just down the street, Mayor Harry Tutunjian unveiled the new vision for the waterfront property, a $31.5 million project with apartments, parking, retail and restaurants.

It opens up access to the waterfront as Broadway is extended through the site with a piazza to Riverfront Park.

"There's street level retail that provided continuation of all the activity on the street," said John Schuyler with FXFOWLE Architects as he pointed to the plans.  "It comes and turns down through the piazza and continues around to the riverfront facing the building.  Residences above, with a series of terraces, capped with green roofs that are both active and passive."

The winner developers were the Richman Group and Nigro Companies.

There was improvement in upstate New York, but not much change in New York City.

City seeks proposals from businesses at Monument Square

Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian has issued a “Request for Qualifications” (RFQ) for the redevelopment of the property located at 1 Monument Square.

“Troy has several miles of waterfront and many of our projects have increased access to or enhanced public recreational opportunities to our waterfront.  The redevelopment of Monument Square is an exciting opportunity for firms to be part of resurrecting Troy’s waterfront and continuing our downtown revitalization effort,” said Tutunjian.

According to the RFQ, the city is seeking proposals from firms that have previous experience managing projects with municipalities and developing waterfront properties.

RFQ submissions are due back to the city by January 21, 2011, with review and RFP issuance expected to take place in Spring 2011.  The city says it intends to break ground on the project in Spring 2012.
