Albany Parking Authority offers Seasonal Discount

ALBANY – The Albany Parking Authority announces a Seasonal Savings special for December through March.

Drivers may get a monthly parking permit to any of the Authority’s three downtown garages for only $100 a month, up to four months.

Improvements to Congress Street begin

TROY - The next phase of infrastructure improvement work along Congress Street is set to begin on Upper Congress Street this Monday, April 2. The repairs will take place between 11th Street and Pawling Avenue.

In addition to new street paving, sidewalks, and lighting, the city will also be replacing the storm and sanitary sewer systems, and replacing the water line.

Some residents should expect some inconvienence or service distruption during construction.

South Troy improvements continue

TROY – Phase II of the South Troy Reinvestment Project will begin on Monday, March 12, this will mark the start of additional infrastructure improvement efforts in the South Troy community.

The scheduled repair will take place on 4th Street, between Tyler and Van Buren Streets. Among the improvements that will be taking place are repaving of streets, sidewalk improvements, new curbs, new landscaping and new trees. The initiative is made possible by more than $2 million in funding from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant and other federal sources.

Construction work will take place Monday through Friday from 7a-4p. Traffic heading south on fourth will be detoured to First Street during those hours

	Lowest bid announced for Troy’s Riverfront Park

TROY - The winning bid has announced for redeveloping Troy's Riverfront Park, which Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian has said is vital to the city.

The city opened nine bids this morning. The lowest was $2.4 million from Malone and Tate Construction Company, which is about $250,000 over the amount of money Troy is getting from the state for the project.

The city will now review Malone and Tate's plan and, if approved, will formally give them the job.

State parks begin rental reservations

There might still be snow on the ground but that won't stop the Grafton Lakes, Schodack Island, Cherry Plain, Crailo State Historic Site and other Capital District State Parks from planning for the upcoming summer season. State Park facilities are taking reservations now for picnic pavilions and tent rentals.

State Park facilities are taking reservations now for picnic pavilions and tent rentals.  Because the demand is so high, many of the parks reservations are handled using a lottery system. 

The pavilions are great for family events, weddings, parties, picnics, business or organizational outings. Those interested are encouraged to make their reservation early.  The parks feature a full range of amenities from small private tents in secluded settings to large 200-person picnic pavilions with adjacent restrooms, recreational facilities, and parking.

Prices range from $50 to $200.  Inquiries should be made directly to the park or site.

Mayor announces free, public skating for Troy residents

Mayor Harry Tutunjian has announced special promotions for public skating at the city’s Knickerbacker Ice Arena.

“…ice skating at our Knickerbacker Ice Arena is a wonderful way to spend time together,” said Tutunjian in a statement.  “This is a great opportunity to get out of the house for a healthy activity.”

Tutunjian said that the city will offer free admission and rentals for public skating in honor of President’s Day from February 21 thru 27 to Troy residents only.  Regular admission rates and skate rentals will still apply to non-residents.
