TROY, N.Y. (AP) - Soldiers from an upstate New York-based Army National Guard unit will be heading downstate for a hurricane response exercise on eastern Long Island.

Members of the 42nd Infantry Division's headquarters based in Troy will depart Wednesday morning in a convoy that will travel to Gabreski Air Base in Westhampton Beach, home of the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing.

The 42nd Infantry's soldiers and airmen from the 106th will conduct an exercise in how to plan, coordinate and manage the Guard's response when a large-scale hurricane makes landfall.

The division serves as the National Guard's Domestic All-Hazards Response Team for the eastern United States.
