Momentive Executives to hand over 1969 Moon Boot to Children's Museum of Science and Technology

Did you know that historic materials developed for the 1969 Moon Boot from Apollo 11 Program were produced locally?

A Waterford-based company designed and manufactured the materials in the 1969 moon boot.

Momentive Performance Materials manufactured the silicone rubber soles that protected the feet of the Apollo 11 astronauts when they stepped onto the surface of the moon in 1969.

Executives from Momentive Performance Materials are handing over a prototype moon boot from the 1969 space program at Rensselaer Technology Park on December 6. 

The moon boot will be the centerpiece for a new exhibit at The Children's Museum of Science and Technology in Troy.

RPI hosts annual Entrepreneur of the Year

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is hosting its annual Entrepreneur of the Year event on Wednesday.

The school will be honoring founder and CEO of the Acumen Fund, Jacqueline Novogratz.

The Acumen Fund is a pioneering not-for-profit global venture fund that is changing how the world addresses poverty.

Victorian Stroll kicks off in Troy

TROY – Troy is gearing up for a celebration that brings thousands of people into the city this weekend.

The kickoff to the Troy Victorian Stroll was this morning.

School holds lead forum

The Berlin Central School district is holding a lead forum Monday.

The forum includes a panel discussion and question and answer presentation on the BES lead issue.

The event is taking place at 7:30 p.m. in school's Middle/High School Auditorium.

The school is located at 17400 Route 22 in Cherry Plain.

Shop late, shop local

Shop local this Black Friday, Troy Night Out is tonight.

As part of the monthly event in Downtown Troy, stores will stay open till 9 p.m.

“Downtown Troy is home to many small, local, independent retailers” said Interim Director of the Downtown Troy BID, Elizabeth Young. “Shopping local keeps more needed dollars here in our local economy. We are challenging folks to ‘Shop 12180’ – doing as much of their holiday shopping as possible within our local zip code.”

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. the streets Downtown Troy will be alive with art openings, exhibits and receptions, live musical and theatrical performances, retail shop open houses as well as restaurants and cafes offering special events and discounts.

 

County kicks off annual Victorian Stroll

The 28th annual Victorian Stroll is kicking off November 30.

Mayor Harry Tutunjian and the President of the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Linda Hillman will be highlighting new additions including the Victorian Stroll Photo Contest, Victorian Costume Contest, and 2010 Window Decorating Contest.

They will also unveil the 2010 U.S. Post Office Stroll Cancellation Stamp.

The Rensselaer County Historical Society will have authentic Victorian era attire on display.

The Stroll attracts more than 20,000 visitors to the Victorian splendor of historic downtown Troy and offers over 100 attractions along with entertainment.

RCHS presents their 54th annual Greens Show

The Rensselaer County Historical Society and Museum (RCHS) and the Van Rensselaer Garden Club are presenting the 54th Annual Greens Show.

The longstanding holiday tradition is running from December 2nd through the 5th. 

Twelve rooms of the 1827 Federal-style Hart-Cluett House will be transformed into “A Dickens Christmas.”
