A Troy man has been charged with felony DWI and resisting arrest after fleeing from the site of a traffic stop.

Humane Society seeks info on injured dog

Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Investigators are seeking information about an injured female Golden Retriever which was brought to the Society by good Samaritans on Tuesday March 8.

The stray dog was found near Brunswick on Hoosick Road in Troy.

The good Samaritans found the dog with a wire wrapped around its leg which they removed before bringing her to the Society. The wire appeared to have been wrapped around the dog’s leg for some time and caused serious injury to that leg.  The dog also sustained several other injuries that have gone untreated.

The Golden Retriever is also severely underweight, weighing approximately 20 pounds less than she should.  Her ribs are clearly visible.  The Society’s veterinary staff is treating her injuries in an attempt to save her leg, but they are severe and badly infected.

Police first recieved a call around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday that a man was breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot of Newton Plaza's CVS. The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived but investigators were able to use a description to identify him as Montgomery.

They found the man sitting at a gas pump at the Hess on Loudon Road. Montgomery fled when officers approached and asked him to put his hands on the steering wheel, according to police. Police lost sight of him after he left the lot, but minutes later began receiving calls of a reckless driver heading north on Loudon Rd. before turning into Latham Farms.

Defrocked priest gets 20-25 years for raping altar boys

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Defrocked Catholic Priest Gary Mercure has been sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison.

Mercure was convicted last week in Pittsfield for raping two Queensbury altar boys during visits to Massachusetts in the 1980s.

Victim’s testified Mercure warned of harm to the boy’s families if they revealed the attacks. One victim said Mercure promised to betray secrets of the confessional booth.

A survivor’s organization for victims of priestly attacks contends Mercure had even more victims than the trial revealed.

There was some investigation of his conduct in Queensbury, but because New York law does not permit prosecution of crimes from so long ago the cases were not fully pursued. Massachusetts has different rules concerning attacks committed under Mercure’s circumstances.

Student gets 15 years in prison for gang killing

TROY - An 18-year-old Troy High School student will spend 15 years in prison for the gang-related stabbing death of a New York City man.

Kemo Santana pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and gang assault in Rensselaer County court Tuesday.

Santana admitted stabbing 26-year-old Edgar Aquino on Father's Day, during a brawl outside of the Martin Luther King apartment complex in Troy.

Prosecutors agreed to the plea deal, down from 2nd murder because there were two large groups of people involved in the brawl and it would be hard to single out Santana.

Five other men face gang assault charges in the case.
