Ruling comes in Black River case | Business

Five area counties may soon have to start paying for Hudson River flood control.

Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Washington and Warren counties were billed millions of dollars after the Hudson River Black River Regulating District lost other sources of money.

An appeals court has ruled the regulating district is entitled to receive money from the five counties, but not as much as it was seeking.

The state has been ordered to contribute as well.

The Northville, Mayfield and Broadalbin Perth school districts have been forced to make cuts as they wait for the dispute to be settled.
