Veggie Mobile expands service

Capital District Community Gardens’ mobile produce market, The Veggie Mobile, has recently expanded its service area with seven new locations. New stops include the North Albany YMCA, Cohoes Senior Center, Unity House in Troy and Summit Towers in Schenectady.

In addition to the new service locations, The Veggie Mobile has also begun serving its customers samples of simply-prepared recipes featuring fresh produce.

“We’re thrilled to be able expand upon this program,” says CDCG Executive Director Amy Klein, “in order to bring more healthy food into the diets of our region’s most vulnerable citizens.”

The Veggie Mobile offers fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices at senior housing facilities and in neighborhoods not served by supermarkets. Operating from a converted box truck that runs on bio-diesel fuel and utilizes solar assistance for refrigeration, The Veggie Mobile welcomes shoppers aboard to peruse shelves and coolers of fresh produce. Purchases can be made with cash, NYS Food Stamps EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards, WIC (Women, Infants and Children) vouchers and FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program) checks.  Please note that The Veggie Mobile is unable to accept payment through credit or debit cards.
