Boil water advisory for some in Troy, North Greenbush

TROY -- Officials are suggesting customers of Water District Three in North Greenbush, La Salle Institute and those who use the Troy Water System in the area of Campbell Avenue, west of Donegal Avenue to Vandenbugh Avenue boil their water after a water main broke around 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

The advisory is not mandatory; however, officials say customers should consider boiling the water for at least one minute for drinking and culinary purposes for the next 24 to 48 hours. Customers may also consider using bottled water.

Officials say the water main has been repaired, flushed and put back in service.  Sampling and testing of the water is ongoing, and notification will go out when the advisory is lifted.

Teen hit by car in Troy, saves baby

TROY -- Flashing police lights illuminated the busy Troy intersection where a teen was hit by a car around dinner time Friday night.

"She got hit and tossed pretty high in the air," said David Bornt.

Bornt was inside making pizzas across the street at Carol's Place when the commotion began.

"One of our customers came in screaming 'call 911.' I'm standing there like why has no one gotten this poor girl a blanket? So I ran in to grab my jacket to put it on her, she was screaming, cold," Bornt said.

Lori Morine, whose son was hit by a car in the same spot last year, heard the screams as she was cooking dinner.

"She was screaming in the center of the road. At least she was conscious," Morine said.

More of George Mott’s relatives take the stand in murder trial

TROY - Eight people related to the defendant, George Mott, have now testified in his trial. Mott is accused of murdering Rosemary Crosier back in 1994.

All but one of those people testified they heard Mott say he played a role in this crime, but again the defense is saying, there is no way these people are telling the truth.

Two more cousins testified Friday after Mott's mother, brother, sister, brother-in-law, and aunt testified Thursday.

Also on the stand was, Mott's mother, Tannya Mott's boyfriend, who said George came to him after Rosemary Crosier was murdered, and said “I did something really messed up.”

When Defense Attorney Brian Donohue tried to poke holes in his story he came back and said "it's been a long time, I've done a lot of drugs. I don't remember dates. I remember what was stated to me."

Rensselaer Land Trust receives $5K grant

Rensselaer Land Trust receives $5K grant

A $5,000 grant has been awarded to the Rensselaer Land Trust by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).

The grant is in support of the RBC Blue Water Project.  According to a release by RBC, the land trust will use the grant money to increase watershed awareness by developing an online interactive map of Rensselaer County’s watersheds, water districts and water sources.

“We will make information on water sources easily available to anyone with internet access, increasing awareness about the importance of water resources and how to keep water clean,” said the President of Rensselaer Land Trust Nick Conradin a statement. “We could not accomplish our mission without the support of companies like RBC who share in our beliefs about the value of protecting nature’s most precious resource.”
